Responsible for work on behalf of the Highways Agency as Managing Agent Contractor (MAC) for Area 12, this organisation has responsibility for the area encompassing the motorways and trunk roads of Yorkshire and peripheral areas from Skipton to Kingston-upon-Hull, Grimsby to Woodall and Scarborough to Ashton-under-Lyme.
Some key duties of the MAC agreement are:
- maintenance of highways, bridges and other structures, footpaths and cycleways - 24 hour incident support - winter maintenance - dedicated customer care - design and implementation of highway improvements - management of specialist contractors - liaison with police and local authorities and statutory undertakers - abnormal load movements - street lighting and sign maintenance - verge and landscape maintenance
180 staff and 180 operatives operate on the network 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Whilst some of their employees have over 30 years experience in the industry others only joined in July 2003 and through working together they provide a service that keeps the routes safe and free-flowing within the Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire regions.
A Clerk of Works, you will be working on the motorway communication team responsible for surveying sites and reporting back to the design team as well as providing supervision of the on-site contractors. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and operating a QM system. The role will involve working on Motorway Communications projects.
